Word on the web is that Galway music pioneers Saw Doctors are planning to release a new album this year on Shamtown Records.
Band members Davy Carton and Leo Moran are working together and writing new music for the record, which will be the band’s latest album since their 2012 compilation album, 25:25 . To date The Saw Doctors have released more than a dozen albums, and have enjoyed a string of top-ten and top-thirty hits in the Irish charts throughout their thirty-odd years on the music scene. In 2008 they were honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Meteor Irish Music Awards, and in 2016 and 2017 they embarked on a successful tour of Ireland, the UK and the US.
Not much is known about this upcoming album, other than it is in the works and will in all likelihood be out this year. Ten years ago they had a number one hit with their cover of The Sugababes single “About You Now”, which raised at least €10,000 for the Salerno Cystic Fibrosis Fund. I was a student at Salerno when they came to perform the song at the school, and they signed stuff – mostly copies of the single. It was at that moment I realised that I could have whatever kind of dope signature that I wanted.
