Last night singer-songwriter FKA twigs handed her Twitter account over to Sex Workers Alliance Ireland as part of a wider campaign to support sex workers’ rights and the organisations that advocate for the decriminalisation of the sex industry.

Over the last few days she has been lending her account to sex worker led organisations worldwide, and last night twigs’ 300k+ followers were informed about the current sex work legislation in Ireland and why many in this country are calling for change. SWAI spoke about the effect that our current legislation is having on people currently selling sex and its failure to identify trafficking victims. Rather, it has led to an 92% increase in violent crimes against sex workers and a complete break down in trust between sex workers and Gardaí. The law is now being reviewed and submissions from the public can be made to the Department of Justice and Equality before September 11. For more information on how to participate in the review please email info@swai.eu.
