As Music for Galway’s 2017/2018 season nears its close, we once again this Wednesday have the pleasure of experiencing some outstanding musical talent.
This Wednesday, January 31, Alex Petcu will be performing at the MFG Portershed sessions (6pm), and at the SAP Lunchtime series (1pm), presented by Music for Galway and in association with Arts in Action NUI Galway.
Alex Petcu is a renowned percussionist who has earned a reputation, both nationally and internationally, as an artist with exceptional musical talent. An Irish musician of Romanian origin, Alex recently released his first album, Alex Petcu: In Time, on the Lyric FM label. He composes his own music and also plays with orchestras, ensembles, and music groups. As a soloist, Alex has played with RTÉ orchestras and other Irish ensemble groups, and in 2015 he was named the National Concert Hall Rising Star. Alex has also collaborated with theatre groups, such as the Abbey Theatre’s production of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night. A review of Alex Petcu: In Time said:
Altogether, Alex Petcu: In Time is a CD that is sure to cross musical boundaries on a label that has been critically acclaimed nationally and internationally from Australia to Germany and the United States of America.
The afternoon session will take place at the PorterShed in Eyre Square, 1pm. Later on at 6pm Alex will be performing at The Cube on the NUIG Galway campus. Both concerts are free of charge. Here’s some music from Alex Petcu to liven up your afternoon.
